In certain parts of American culture, it is common to apologize… a lot. Someone will apologize for their home, simply because they’ve chosen to save for their children’s education rather than to have a home as fancy as their guests. Someone else will apologize for the meal they’re serving, simply because they’ve chosen to keep a vegetarian diet and household rather than eating and serving meat. In many such cases, it seems like the apologizer feels the need in their head to address a perceived affront to the apologizee, when in fact the apologizee–or the universe–does’t even notice.
Let’s be proud of our values, rather than apologize for them. The universe will not be offended, really.
